Firework policies in Dale County

July 03, 2009

By Ebony Horton

Please read to see where and where you can’t (legally) shoot fireworks in the county. Happy Fourth!

Some Dale County cities and towns have ordinances regarding fireworks on July 4, while other areas do not. All cities that permit fireworks ask residents to use caution.
The information was compiled from each city’s clerk or police department.
Ariton - allowed, but requesting not to shoot fireworks if it rains
Clayhatchee - allowed
Daleville - none allowed
Grimes - allowed
Level Plains - none allowed
Midland City - allowed in city, but property managers can regulate within their area
Napier Field - allowed in town, but may be regulated by fire department due to dry weather
Newton - allowed
Ozark - none within 100 feet of any building, otherwise allowed

By Ebony Horton

“Dateline ft smith, ark 8:31 pm (Thursday)
Early departure from tusc. ..beautiful mc road thru fayette, wynnfield , hamilton on to tupelo and then thru hellsville (Memphis) traffic awful and that mc seemed mighty small between the kenworth trucks.  I 40 over
the Miss river thick traffic but no problem…I really dreaded Memphis…Little Rock easy thru but ft smith
another matter…I will be nice and keep this family but the best description rhymes with witch…Tired, sore but
having a ball!  MC cruises @ 70 no problem…the problem is keeping the speed down.  This was supposed
to be a hard, hot day and it was…If you bet against me making it you better get ready to pay up.

Check out Butt’s boar restuarant in Wynnfield!  Bet they can’t beat Dobb’s or Larry’s.Well my body wash decided to wash all my clothes while traveling…cleanup time!!!

Bomb threat just a scare

July 02, 2009

By Ebony Horton

There was an alleged bomb threat Thursday at the Dale County Courthouse. Deputies brought hazardous material from an alleged meth lab in Ariton to the courthouse. Authorities called in Dothan officials to assist in determining whether the bomb-like materials would detonate. The package was shot at twice but did not blow, authorities said, and there were no injuries.
