Story time continues at Landmark Park

“Too Much Noise” is the latest in the series of Animal Tales at Landmark Park. The story of a noisy family and their noisy pets trying to find some quiet time will be read on Tuesday.

Animal Tales is a summer story time about animals and designed for pre-school age children. Readers present stories with theatrical flair. Families and youth groups are welcome to participate in the story time events held each Tuesday in July.

Story times begin at 10 a.m. in the Interpretive Center at Landmark Park on U.S. 431 North in Dothan. Programs are free with paid admission to the park ($4 for adults, $3 for children ages 4-15, free for members and children 3 and under). Reservations are required, plus a 50 percent deposit for groups of 15 or more.

Call the park at 794-3452 for information.

Forum focuses on rights of parents and students

The Alfred Saliba Family Services Center will host a forum on the school-to-prison pipeline on July 29 at 5:30 p.m. in the center’s auditorium on Lena Street.

The forum will feature Regina Moorer, education organizer and advocate for the Southern Poverty Law Center’s Alabama Education Reform Project, an effort to reduce the flow of students into the criminal justice system. Attendees will learn about the rights parents and students have regarding suspensions and expulsions, corporal punishment and special education. She will also discuss how parents can effectively advocate for their children and become more engaged in local efforts to address the school-to-prison pipeline — a reference to a national trend where children, disproportionately children of color, are suspended or expelled from public schools and placed into the juvenile and criminal justice systems.

For information, call Bill Block with the Alfred Saliba Family Services Center at 712-1542.
