Andalusia city workers faces ethics, theft charges

An Andalusia city worker faces felony ethics charges after being accused of stealing gasoline, according to Attorney General Troy King.

Michael Andrew Johnson was arrested June 16 and charged with first-degree theft along with the felony ethics charge that he used his position as an equipment operator for unlawful personal gain. A written release from the Attorney General’s office state’s the charges stem from alleged theft of gasoline valued at more than $2,500.

King presented evidence to a Convington County grand jury June 10, and an indictment followed. He was arrested by the Covington County Sheriff’s Deparmtent and released on bond from the Covington County Jail.

If convicted, Johnson could receive between 2 and 20 years in prison, and a $30,000 fine for each charge in the 13-count indictment.
