Farm equipment theft case ongoing after one arrest

Henry County Sheriff’s deputies are looking for information in an ongoing theft investigation of stolen farm equipment over the past year.

Investigators arrested Ronald Scott Redmon earlier this month and he faces more than a half dozen felony charges, including the theft of a hay bailer that belonged to Henry County Sheriff William Maddox. Maddox said investigators believe several others were likely involved in the theft cases with Redmon, but no other charges have been filed.

“He stole my hay bailer and they had it there at that metal buying place in Dothan,” Maddox said.

Maddox said investigators recovered his hay bailer, worth an estimated $8,000, but it was already destroyed. Redmon, 30, of Headland, was charged with stealing equipment from different farms and hunting clubs over the past year. After a recent interview with investigators Redmon confessed to the theft of nearly $15,000 worth of equipment, Maddox said.

“He’s got a methamphetamine habit,” Maddox said as to the motive to the thefts.

Henry County Sheriff’s investigators arrested Redmon on June 12. He posted a $168,500 bond the next day.

Redmon faces four felony counts of theft of property first-degree, two felony counts of theft of property second-degree, unlawful breaking and entering of a motor vehicle, misdemeanor second-degree possession of marijuana and five misdemeanor charges of possession of traffic signs. Henry County Conservation Enforcement Officer Larry Doster also charged Redmon with hunting at night.

Houston County Sheriff’s investigators arrested Redmon last week and charged him with a single felony county of first-degree theft of property, according to court records.
