Attempts to reach a plea agreement in the case of a Dothan man charged with shooting two Dothan policemen have fallen through.

Attorneys for Andrevis Deon Davis met with Houston County District Attorney Doug Valeska Thursday afternoon in the Houston County Courthouse, then met with Davis. After several minutes of consultation, the parties failed to agree on the plea terms.

Davis is charged with two counts of attempted murder, three counts of kidnapping, one count of first degree of armed robbery and one count of first degree possession of marijuana in connection with a March incident at a Hobo Pantry Convenience Store in Dothan. Two Dothan policemen, Arthur Schaefer III, 37, and Walter Ray Handley, 31, were shot during the incident. The officers were on patrol shortly after midnight and stopped at the store located in the 2800 block of East Main Street for a “walk through,” and a gunman behind the counter started shooting at them.

The officers returned fire and Davis was hit multiple times, and was hospitalized more than month.

Security camera video recorded much of the incident.

Davis also faces sexual abuse, rape and sodomy charges in Henry County.

Valeska said he offered Davis 400 years in prison.

Davis is represented by Spencer Danzey and Jack Blumenfeld. Davis, 18 at the time of the incident, has applied for youthful offender status.

I wish we would show more respect for our police officers and call them that rather than a slur name from the slums of northern cities.

I hope he rots in jail for the rest of his life, he should have never been out on bond in the first place.
