Siran Stacy accident report shows other driver legally intoxicated

Nearly four months after a crash that left six people dead, the Houston County district attorney’s office has released the blood alcohol level for the driver authorities said was at fault.

District Attorney Doug Valeska said a toxicology report recently released by the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences showed that Adam Wayman, 29, had a BAC level of .135 at the time of the crash. The legal limit in the state of Alabama is .08. The toxicology report showed the examination of Wayman’s blood did not reveal any other drugs.

The crash on Nov. 19, 2007, claimed the lives of five members of Siran Stacy’s family. Stacy, 39, and a young daughter survived, but were hospitalized. Wayman was also killed in the crash.

Preliminary reports from state highway patrol investigators said the accident was alcohol related. Wayman crashed the pickup truck he was driving into a minivan driven by Stacy, which carried six of his family members. Stacy’s wife, Ellen, 36, died, along with two of their children, 10-year-old Bronson Stacy and 2-year-old Ellie Stacy. Two of Stacy’s other children, 18-year-old Lequisa Stacy and 8-year-old Sidney Stacy, also died in the crash.

None of the motorists wore seatbelts during the crash, according to the traffic accident report prepared by Alabama State Trooper Kevin Cook. No form of child restraint or safety seat was used during the crash.

Wayman drove a 1999 Ford pickup truck on the wrong side of U.S. 84 when he crashed into the passenger side of the 2007 Honda minivan driven by Stacy. It’s unclear why Wayman was driving on the wrong side of the highway at the time of the crash.

The pickup truck was owned by his mother Linda Wayman, with whom he shared an apartment at Azalea Apartment complex, formerly known as Charter House apartments. One of Wayman’s relatives previously told the Dothan Eagle a car wreck also took the life of Wayman’s father nearly 10 years before the crash.

Stacy worked for the Bank of San Destin, and was driving a Honda Odyssey owned by Hertz Vehicles out of Casselberry, Fla.

At the time of the crash around 11:05 p.m., Wayman was traveling an estimated 80 mph in a 65 mph speed zone, while Stacy traveled about 15 mph as he crossed the intersection of U.S. 84 and Highway 123 near Wicksburg.
