Authorities are investigating the early-morning death of a 5-year-old child in Cypress, Fla.
Just after 3 a.m. on Thursday, Jackson County, Fla. Fire Rescue and Jackson County Sheriff’s office responded to a report of an unresponsive child at a home in the Cypress community, according to a JCSO news release.
Paramedics and deputies arrived to find family members attempting to resuscitate the child, said the report.
According to the news release, the child was immediately transported to Jackson Hospital as life-saving procedures continued, but was pronounced dead by an emergency room physician.
The sheriff’s office did not list the address at which the incident occurred, nor the identity of the child or anyone at the residence, but did say that foul play was not suspected.
Investigators from JCSO and the 14th Judicial Medical Examiners Officer were dispatched and the Medical Examiners Office assumed jurisdiction, said the report.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement Crime Scene Unit was also called in to assist with the investigation.
The child’s cause of death is pending a post-mortem examination.
