U.S. Rep. Bobby Bright, D-Montgomery, was named to the House Agriculture Committee Tuesday night.
It is Congressman Bright’s second committee assignment. He was named to the House Armed Services Committee last week. His predecessor, Congressman Terry Everett, served on both committees.
“It will be a great honor to serve on the Agriculture Committee,” Bright said in a written statement. “Agriculture is one of the most important industries in Alabama and in the Second District specifically. It will be my goal on the committee to fight for Alabama farms and farmers and ensure that agriculture stays strong and thrives in southeast Alabama.”
The Agriculture Committee has jurisdiction over specialty crops, commodity exchanges, water and soil conservation, extension of farm credit and farm security, forestry, nutrition, rural electrification and development, and agriculture generally. In the 110th Congress, the Agriculture Committee debated and passed the Farm Bill.
