A Dothan man is recovering from injuries he sustained in a dog attack Thursday morning.
Dothan police said Chapelwood resident Tommy McCloud was attacked outside his home on Fontana Circle by two dogs around 11 a.m. Monday.
Wayne Grantham and Donnell Grantham witnessed the attack while they were cutting a nearby lawn. The Granthams said the dogs knocked McCloud to the ground and one of the animals bit him. The dogs then ran off, but later came back while the Granthams were checking on McCloud.
Donnell Grantham said the dogs made aggressive motions toward them, but Donnell scared them off by shooting one of them with ratshot.
“They got closer to me than I would like,” he said. “I decided I better do it now or else.”
McCloud transported himself to a local hospital where he was treated for minor injuries.
Dothan Police Maj. Nick Monday said the dogs were picked up by animal control. Monday said the dogs’ owner, Derek Smith, signed a release allowing the city to euthanize the dog that bit McCloud.
