Gas prices stable, but hover near $4

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) _ High gas prices may be responsible for keeping some Alabamians closer to home over the Independence Day holiday weekend.

AAA Alabama said the average price of a gallon of regular is $3.95. That’s about one-tenth of a penny higher from Thursday.

The national average price for regular on Friday was $4.10 a gallon.

Midgrade fuel averaged $4.22 while premium cost $4.35 a gallon.

According to the auto club, Montgomery had the cheapest metro average at $3.94 a gallon. Tuscaloosa’s $3.97 a gallon was the state’s highest average.
