Houston County inmate dies New Year’s eve

A Houston Couny Jail inmate died Wednesday evening of an apparent heart problem.
Aaron Howell, 69, was pronounced dead in the Southeast Alabama Medical Center emergency room on New Year’s Eve, Houston County Coroner Robert Byrd said.
Howell had been found earlier lying unresponsive in his cell. Jail authorities had Howell transported to the hospital.
Byrd said Howell had a history of heart problems.
The Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences will perform an autopsy on Howell. Byrd said results could be available as soon as tomorrow.
