Authorities have identified four juveniles they believe stole a sign commemorating civil rights icon Rosa Parks.
Earlier this summer, the Rosa Parks Historical Marker, which marks the site of her home in Abbeville, was stolen. The Dale County dive team recovered the sign in August in a creek near Skipperville.
Henry County Sheriff Will Maddox said Friday that police have identified four suspects they intend to arrest for the crime. Maddox was unable to name the suspects because they were juveniles.
Maddox said police were led to suspect the juveniles after a Dale County deputy received a tip identifying them as the thieves. Maddox said some of the suspects have confessed after being questioned.
Maddox said police intend to arrest the juveniles after his department and the Dale County Sheriff’s Office determine what charges will be filed against the juveniles.
