Rep. Jay Love’s primary victory for the 2nd Congressional seat was assured the day Sen. Harri Anne Smith betrayed the Conservative Christians of Houston County and embraced the Country Crossing gambling cartel.
She flip-flopped on this seriously important issue and changed sides without even the courtesy of notifying the pastors, community leaders and individuals who supported her bill. I sat in a prominent minister’s office days after her flip-flop.
The mood was grim, but a comment was made that Christians would express their displeasure at being so snubbed in November at the polls. Sen. Smith’s chickens did come home to roost and sealed her defeat. Voters this year do not care about party affiliation, gender, smear ads or phony endorsements from country stars who are paid to perform in negative attack ads.
They want a candidate they can trust. The major issue this year is character, integrity and honesty. Sen. Jay Love won the majority vote on the strength of his character. Houston County residents should wake up and realize that the gambling cartel agenda obviously includes seizing control of the Wiregrass political machine. They already own the Houston County Commission.
They will support the candidate who will give them power in Washington. The newspaper and television media continue to abdicate their responsibility to Houston County voters by not doing investigative reporting in exploring who these candidates really are, what they truly stand for and, most importantly, who owns them through political contributions and outside smear campaign support.
Hopefully, the media’s callous indifference will be rectified during the final campaign for Congress.

I do not agree with your assessment. I think Sen. Harri Anne Smith’s money grab from the tax payer had a lot to do with her loss. Although she lost the election Rep. Jay Love’s shake down of Mr. Gilley for campaign contributions did not show the characteristics you said you are looking for. Your words “The major issue this year is character, integrity and honesty”
