After reading the Sept. 18 lead story — a Dothan Eagle exclusive — on the Houston County Commission slapping $1,000 fee on all bingo machines, I immediately thought how shortsighted the county commission is to attempt to kill the goose that lays the golden eggs.
It seems to me before someone starts to slap a $1,000 fee on all bingo machines — your words, not mine — it might be more prudent to assure that the golden goose is what it’s touted to be.
I fear that if I were the goose and knew I was going to have to pay this previously unknown fee, I might have decided not to alight in Houston County.
Then, I’m reminded of the story of the dog who, in crossing the footbridge with the bone in his mouth, spies another dog with a bone in his mouth.

$1.5million versus how much are they going to make in a year?
I think I read recently the machines stand to clear over $50million a year!
