BRUNDIDGE—Brad Waggoner, who led Luverne High School to three playoff appearances and two region championships in three seasons, is the new head football coach at Pike County High School.
The Pike County Board of Education hired Waggoner at Monday night’s meeting.
He succeeds Wayne Grant, who resigned near the end of the school year after an amazing career at the school in Brundidge. Grant coached Pike County from 1982 until 1991, and from 1999 to 2007. He went 185-59 at PCHS and won state championships in 1988, 1989, 2003, 2005 and 2006.
Waggoner, a native of Fayetteville, Ga., went 25-11 in three seasons at Luverne. The Tigers reached the Class 2A quarterfinals in 2006.
Ironically, Waggoner left the Wiregrass region after the first semester last year. He took the head coaching position at Douglas High School in Marshall County in January.
