The Rebels snapped a 16-game losing streak in a shocking 26-21 upset over Class 2A’s 10th-ranked Elba Tigers at Tiger Stadium at Mack Wood Field in Elba.

It was the first win for head coach George Kennedy, now in his second year at Skipperville.

Long rallied from 21-13 down in the second half to earn the win. Dewayne Whigham returned a kickoff 95 yards, setting up a touchdown run by quarterback Mason Stephens to pull the Rebels within two. A few minutes later, Whigham raced 74 yards for a score to put Long in front with just over three minutes to go.

The win was the first for Long since beating Samson on Oct. 13, 2006. The Rebels lost their final three games of that year then went 0-10 last year. They started this season 0-3.
