Growing up in small-town Alabama afforded me the qualities of life small towns could afford when the farming industry was booming. There are still quality small towns around the south several decades since I kicked cans around my town square as a school-aged kid, but I can’t say that my hometown is among them.
Nevertheless, friendships from high school both there and eventually where I would graduate at a much larger school in northwest and eventually the real world of trying to bring home the bacon; sometimes simultaneously. At times, the pigs were awfully hard to catch, and even if you did, they seemed scrawny. But, when you love what you’re doing – I’m starting my 34th year in the media business – the pigs seem much fatter regardless what you’re bank statement says.
