The Barbour County High Jaguar football team battled the heat, rain and eight other teams at the Alabama State University Hornet 7-on-7 football camp held recently in Montgomery.
They finished in second place, falling to Class 5A Central of Tuscaloosa. They finished 5-2 on the day.
The Jaguars defeated Class 1A Autaugaville 25-15; Class 6A Huffman (JV) 33-3; Class 6A Carver Montgomery (JV) 47-8; Robert E. Lee 29-25; Carver Montgomery (varsity) 27-17 and their only two losses came to Central 28-26 in overtime and 35-8 in the championship game.
Senior quarterback Emanuel Thompson Jr. found a new weapon in senior Hanson Guice (transfer from Carroll High) hooking up on 10 touchdowns on the day including four 40-yarders. In 7-on-7, each possession starts on the opponents’ 40 yard line unless an interception occurs (30-yeard line), and only passing plays are permitted.
