The campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination has proved far more interesting than any fare offered in popular entertainment these days. It’s not just yellow dogs following the historic campaigns of the would-be first African-American president and the would-be first female president.

The Obama and Hillary Show has captivated the nation. There have been brilliant moments, such as Hillary knocking back shots and beer in a working-class bar and Obama revealing the tarnish on his silver tongue by characterizing poor Americans as bitter religious zealots, gun nuts or all of the above.

The candidates have no compunction about playing fast and loose with the truth, particularly since two magic words — “I misspoke” — make an effective editing tool. This particular reality show skated dangerously close to cancellation Tuesday. The Pennsylvania Primary episode threatened to become the finale as few viewers expected Hillary to pull out a substantial win in Penn. She did, and she lives for another episode or two.

Surely there’ll be more entertaining shenanigans in store before the senator from New York is voted off the island for good.
