Repercussions of gambling
Thursday, Apr 10, 2008 - 09:50 AM Updated: 10:58 AM
I have been keeping current with the Country Crossing bingo issue with much interest. In a recent newspaper I read Mr. Gilley’s thoughts on the matter and found them to be similar to that of a person who thinks he is a victim of some great social injustice because some people have different opinions.
I have seen firsthand what a person will do when they are in over their head with gambling. We all have weaknesses and if they are not controlled they can and will cause our downfall.
I have a real problem with people who use business to chip away or take advantage of people with little or no self-control in order to gain profit. Some people will be compulsive and spend much more than they can afford and it will not just be themselves who are affected.
All the people of Houston County should have a say in what becomes of this issue but, as with all things, there are and will be consequences to any decision that is made.
