I hope the people of Alabama do not buy into the “lottery needed for schools” nonsense.  We moved here from Florida and that is how the lottery passed there. I was told by someone with children in the school system that it was not in addition to existing funding but in the place of existing funding, and that if the schools had to depend on Lotto for support they’d “be broke in three days.”

Read the statistics. People who do not have the money to waste are the biggest spenders on Lotto in the hope of hitting the jackpot. For those who have won the jackpot, statistics are not very good, either. This state does not need Lotto.
