PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Dewayne Whitten , Cottonwood
For the second straight week, Cottonwood quarterback Dewayne Whitten had a monster night, leading to player of week honors.

In just three quarters of play, the junior completed 16-of-20 passes for 300 yards and four touchdowns and also rushed for 61 yards and a touchdown, leading the Bears to a 52-12 win over Geneva County.

Whitten threw TD passes of 15, 27 and 27 to Antonio Graham and 28 yards to Derrick Coachman, while rushing for a 3-yard score, helping the Bears build a 27-0 lead at the end of the first quarter and 40-0 at halftime.

TEAM OF THE WEEK
Wicksburg Panthers
Wicksburg rallied in the fourth quarter to earn their first state playoff win in eight years, scoring two touchdowns in the final five minutes to beat Hale County 22-12 at Panther Stadium.

Hale County led 12-8 and was threatening when Wicksburg recovered a fumble inside the 10 to stop the potential Wildcat scoring drive.

The Panthers then moved down the field for a go-ahead score on a 7-yard Zach Love touchdown run with 5:01 to go. A key 22-yard scramble by quarterback Blake Wallace on third-and-19 kept the drive.

Wicksburg then blocked a Hale County block with 3:18 to go, setting up a 13-yard touchdown pass from Wallace to Nick Burgan on fourth-and-2, pushing the Panther lead to 22-12.

Wallace intercepted a late pass at the 1-yard line to finish it off.

The win was the first for Wicksburg since a 1999 opening-round win over Red Level.
