Roy Hoobler and Janis Luttrell will be giving a piano and organ recital on Sunday, Sept. 8, at 4 p.m. in the sanctuary at Enterprise United Methodist Church, located on Main Street. The program will begin with piano selections by Mozart, Liszt, and switch to contemporary arrangements of hymns and songs. The second half will feature the famous Toccata and Fugue in D minor by J.S. Bach and then some contemporary piano and organ duets featuring the music of Twila Paris and others. The program is free to the public.

The Southeast Alabama Community Theatre will produce an all-kids version of Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” with performances on Sept. 10-14 at the Dothan Opera House. Landmark Park’s annual Low Country Boil will be held Sept. 19 at 6 p.m. in the Stokes Activity Barn. Shrimp, sausage, corn and potatoes, along with the chef’s secret blend of spices, will be cooked in a 60-gallon kettle outside the Stokes Activity Barn. The meal is served out of wheelbarrows for a laid back feast. A silent auction, live music by Kyle Ogle and Forrest Williams, wagon rides and hot dogs for the kids will also be available at this annual fall fundraiser. Tickets are $50 per person, $5 for kids ages 3-12 and $500 for a reserved table of eight. Tickets must be purchased in advance by calling 334-794-3452. The deadline to order tickets is Sept. 13.


The Wiregrass Talent Quest will be held Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. at the Dothan Civic Center, featuring the 20 finalists from 43 applicants whose talents included singing, dancing, musical instruments and comedy. General admission tickets are $10 for balcony seating. Reserved table seating on the floor is $62.50 per ticket or $500 for a table of eight. The 23rd annual Wiregrass Model Railroad Show and Sale will be held Sept. 21-22 at the National Peanut Festival Fairgrounds in Dothan and will feature vendors from throughout the Southeast selling model train equipment and supplies and operating model railroads in several scales. The show will also feature an outdoor train ride, concessions, and door prizes both days. Show opens at 9 a.m. and closes at 5 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. The Cole Bros. Circus of the Stars will be at the Houston County Farm Center in Dothan on Sept. 25-26 with performances at 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. each day. Gulf Coast Jam, a country music festival, will be held in Panama City Beach, Fla., Sept. 26-28, and will feature Toby Keith, Eli Young Band, Darryl Worley, Brantley Gilbert, The Charlie Daniels Band, Blackberry Smoke and Trace Adkins. Fort Rucker’s 11th Annual Oktoberfest will be held on Sept. 27 from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Fort Rucker Festival Fields. Features live German music by Sonnenschein Express, traditional German food including bratwurst and schnitzel, German beer, keg toss competition and a Volkswagen Show & Shine. There will also be kid-friendly activities such as inflatables, a pumpkin patch, crafts and more. Free admission. Open to the public.


The Dale County Council of Arts and Humanities will host its 13th annual Regional Juried Art Exhibition at the Ann Rudd Art Center and Dowling Museum through Sept. 27. The art center and museum is located at 144 E. Broad St. in downtown Ozark.

PorktoberQue, a combined Oktoberfest and barbecue competition, will be held Sept. 27-28 in Dothan at the Houston County Farm Center, located at 1701 E. Cottonwood Road. Hours are 5 to 9 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday. The barbecue competition is sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society. Activities will include a car show on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., a RV and boat show all weekend, and a huge car sale all weekend. Additionally, there is an indoor Biergarten with polka music and vendors, tons of food vendors, kids activities like free putt-putt, inflatables and an interactive and educational program on reptiles. The Mighty Auto Parts Man Cave has an area for watching football games and enjoying cold beverages, and there will be lots of fantastic barbecue for sale all weekend.
