A jury found an Ozark man guilty of the armed robbery of two people, including a pregnant teenager, in the parking lot at Wiregrass Commons Mall.
Assistant Houston County District Attorney Banks Smith said a Houston County jury found 23-year-old Benjamin Nickerson guilty of two felony counts of first-degree robbery.
Dothan police investigators arrested Nickerson in April 2012.
Smith said the jury found Nickerson guilty of robbing an 18-year-old pregnant woman at gunpoint as she walked through the parking lot of Wiregrass Commons Mall. He said the victim of the second offense was a man sitting inside his car in the parking lot.
Smith said police recovered the purse stolen from the woman during the robbery.
Smith said Nickerson faces 20 years to life in prison when he’s sentenced next month. Smith said the minimum sentence of 10 to 99 years or life in prison for the class A felony crime of armed robbery would likely be enhanced to 20 to life because of the use of a firearm during the robberies.
Circuit Court Judge Larry Anderson will sentence Nickerson next month.
