A dozen people, including eight people riding on a bus from a senior citizens center, were taken to local hospitals after at three-vehicle crash on U.S. 231 near the National Peanut Festival.
The crash, which happened a little after noon on Thursday, involved a bus from a senior center in Headland, along with a Dodge truck and a GMC Yukon.
Dothan Police Sgt. Tim Ellison said the senior center bus had been going southbound and missed the turn into the National Peanut Festival. After turning around and heading back north, the bus became involved in a crash with the truck and SUV.
A total of 11 people were on the bus. Eight of them were taken to local hospitals as a precaution or for treatment of minor injuries. Four people from the other two vehicles were also taken to hospitals for treatment of serious injuries. Ellison said exactly how the crash occurred is still being investigated.
Ellison also said any vehicles driving north which miss the turn into the National Peanut Festival should go all the way to Saunders Road where they can turn back south to go into the festival.
Thursday afternoon is Senior Citizen's Day at the festival.
