OZARK—A 10-year-old girl struck by a vehicle on Campground Road in Ozark on Monday was transferred to UAB Hospital with critical injuries, authorities said.

According to Ozark Police Chief Tony Spivey, Madesen Holman appears to have run after a ball near the intersection of Campground Road and East Andrews Avenue, where Spivey said Madesen was struck by 2007 Ford Explorer around 6:18 p.m. Monday.

Spivey said the driver did take evasive action to try and avoid hitting her, and that speed did not appear to be a factor in the crash.

Spivey said OPD is assisted in the investigation by the Alabama State troopers.
