State and local fire officials have concluded their investigation into the circumstances surrounding a house fire that claimed the lives of two children, calling the cause undetermined.
Dothan firefighters responded to a house fire late Monday evening at 205 Ginnalou Dr., located off West Main Street outside Ross Clark Circle.
According to a statement from Dothan Fire Marshal Chris Etheredge, the fire claimed the lives of two children and left three adults seriously injured. Fire officials said those killed in the fire included 4-year-old Byron Harvey and 1-year-old Ariel Harvey.
Those injured in the fire included Melissa Harvey, 30, Jermaine Harvey, 30, and 59-year-old Leonard Harvey. All three of the injured were taken to local hospitals for treatment, and the two men were later transferred to a hospital in Birmingham for additional treatment.
“Investigators have been able to determine the area of origin, however the exact cause cannot be determined,” Etheredge said in the statement. “With the amount of damage and the item(s) first ignited completely consumed by fire, the exact cause cannot be identified.”
Etheredge also said investigators found the fire apparently started in the carport area of the home.
Etheredge also called the investigation into the fire complete, barring any new information or evidence discovered by authorities.
