Barbour County Sheriff's deputies are looking for information in a robbery homicide that left a 71-year-old woman dead.
LeRoy Upshaw, the Barbour County sheriff, said investigators responded to a home invasion robbery in the Spring Hill community early Friday.
Upshaw said deputies responded to a 911 call around 7:15 a.m. Friday at a home just off Farmer Road where they found 71-year-old Elizabeth Sanders dead. He said Sanders suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the chest during the home invasion robbery.
Upshaw said police discovered there were two of Sanders’ relatives inside the home at the time of the murder, but they were not injured.
Upshaw also said they believe at least two robbers to be involved in the murder. No one has been arrested, and investigators with the Barbour County Sheriff’s Office are following up on leads and looking for information.
Upshaw declined to release other details about what police believe happened because of the ongoing investigation.
Upshaw said it was the first murder investigated by the Barbour County Sheriff’s Office in 2013.
“We’re doing the best we can to find who did it, and hopefully we’ll have some results soon,” Upshaw said.
