A federal judge ordered an Enterprise man to serve a 44-month prison term for a felony possession of child pornography charge.
Court records show U.S. Judge Keith Watkins sentenced Bradley C. Johnson to the prison term on Thursday ordering the defendant to a federal prison facility where sex offender treatment is available, along with educational and vocation training. The court specifically ordered Johnson to serve his sentence at one of three correctional facilities in Tallahassee, Fla., to Seagoville, Texas, or Fort Worth, Texas.
Johnson was also given until 2 p.m. on May 22, to surrender to authorities to serve out his sentence
Records show Johnson pleaded guilty to knowingly possessing digital image files on an eMachine computer depicting children engaging in sexual activity.
He pleaded guilty to possession of the images at his Enterprise home on Oct. 7, 2009. Records show the images possessed were produced outside the state of Alabama and downloaded off the Internet.
Johnson became the second Wiregrass resident this year to be sentenced to federal prison for a child pornography offense.
Last month a federal judge sentenced Joseph Kyle Edberg to a 78-month prison term for the felony possession of child pornography.
Agents with the U.S. Marshals Service arrested Edberg in October 2011 on what was originally a 12-count felony indictment involving the reception and possession of child pornography.
Federal court records show Edberg pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of a single felony count of possession of child pornography. The other 11 counts were dismissed at sentencing.
Court records show Edberg pleaded guilty to knowingly possessing a USB storage device, which contained digital image files of children engaging in sexual activity. He pleaded guilty to the possession of the images at his Dothan home on Dec. 8, 2010.
In an unrelated investigation, federal agents also arrested two other Wiregrass residents this year on federal child pornography related charges.
Last month, agents with the U.S. Marshals Service arrested Matthew Byron Philmon, 26, of Headland, on a two-count federal felony indictment involving child pornography. His charges remain pending.
Earlier this year in January agents with the U.S. Marshals Service arrested Vernon Wayne Smith Jr., 43, of Enterprise, and charged him as part of a five-count felony indictment. Smith’s charges also remain pending.
