John Clark and Mekai Anglin begin adding metal washers to a hook attached to a string hanging from a table in their fourth grade classroom at Grandview Elementary School. After a few washers are added, the weight of the washers is great enough to begin pulling a model car loaded with wooden blocks at the other end of the string forward.

Melissa Lockett, the boys’ teacher, said the project gives her students a hands-on lesson in force and motion and helps keep them engaged and excited about their science work.
