OZARK—School officials said only Ariton and G.W. Long schools in Dale County will reopen for classes Monday, while the four Dale County schools nearest to Tuesday’s bus shooting will remain closed until further notice.

Neither will any of the schools be open as planned Friday for counseling.

Dale County Schools Superintendent Donny Bynum said Dale County High School, Midland City Elementary School, Newton Elementary School and South Dale Middle School will remain closed until further notice.

Bynum said his district is continuing to map out a contingency plan on when and how to provide counseling to the students after the loss of Dale County Schools bus driver Charles “Chuck” Poland on Tuesday and the abduction of an elementary school student.

“Our concern and our thoughts are with the children and with the family of Mr. Poland,” Bynum said.

“Right now we’re continuing to wait and pray to see how best to move forward.”

Both Daleville City and Ozark City schools, which closed through the week, are expected to reopen Monday. Federal Head Start preschool centers in those areas are also expected to reopen Monday.

Buses for the schools that are opening Monday are expected to run.
