The civil challenge to the outcome of the District 2 Dothan City Commission election will go to trial Dec. 12, barring a delay.

Circuit Judge Butch Binford set the trial date Monday during a motion hearing in the challenge of Lamesa Danzey, who finished 14 votes behind incumbent Commissioner Amos Newsome in the Aug. 6 District 2 election. Newsome received 119 of 124 absentee ballots cast. Danzey claims some of the absentee votes cast for Newsome were obtained fraudulently. Newsome disputes Danzey’s allegations. In court filings, Newsome claims some of the votes Danzey received were obtained fraudulently.
