Sarah Lassiter McGowan Sarah Lassiter McGowan, passed away Friday, January 31, 2014, of pneumonia at Flowers Hospital,with her children at her beside. She was 80. Sarah was born in Graceville, FL, Nov 5,1933, to Wayne and Lola Miller Lassiter. She was predeceased by her parents,her husband, Max McGowan, and her sister, Elizabeth Smith. Sarah, along with her husband, Max co-owned WOOF Radio. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church, Women's Literary Club and Dothan Country Club. Sarah leaves to cherish her memories her son, Steve McGowan (Sharla Jones), daughter, Mona (Carl) Burrell, grandsons William McGowan, Andrew Burrell and Harris Jones. She is also survived by special friends, Nell Burnett, Betty King, Linda Poyner, Nell Rodgers,and Ann Todd. The McGowan family would like to thank Dr.Roland Spedale, and the professionals on MICU-5, Stephanie, Tiffany, Ashton, Summerlyn, Debbie and Bruce. As per her wishes a celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the "In Christ's Name Fund" at the First United Methodist Church of Christ Dothan.     So sorry to hear about Mrs Mcgowan. She was such a nice person and always so appreciative. I am sorry i lost touch with her over the years . I know she was a blessing to your family!

How to submit an obituary

All obituaries (including photo and flag) and death notices cost $4.14 per line. Obituaries are placed online at for a one-time $10 charge.

Funeral homes must submit obituaries,death notices and photos by 4:30 p.m. the day before the obituary is to be published. Obituaries are accepted only through funeral homes.

Photos: Dothan Eagle publishes photographs with its obituaries. The photograph must be delivered or e-mailed to the Eagle by 4:30 p.m. the day before the obituary is to be published. Label the name of the deceased on the back of the photograph exactly as the name will appear in the obituary.
