Name: Jason Siples
Position : Forward
Coach: Phillip Landers
College: Chattahoochee Valley Community College
Coach: Ronnie Battle
Stats: As a senior, Siples averaged 12 points, 7.7 rebounds and 7.6 blocks for the Eagles.
Siples on signing with CVCC: I just like the way they play. Hard defense and fast breaks. I’m glad to get the chance to go to college for free. I loved playing here (Carroll). I’m going to miss it a lot.
Siples on his strengths: Playing defense, blocking shots and running the floor.
Siples on what he wants to improve: Playing on the block around the basket.
Landers on Siples: Jason is probably what every coach wants as far as a student-athlete is concerned. He does his academic work first, comes and works hard in practice and then his success in the classroom and on the practice court carries over into the game. He’s been an ideal student-athlete here at Carroll.
Landers on Siples strengths: Jason is a quite leader. When he does say something everybody listens. He’s going to bring Chattahoochee Valley a real athletic kid. Since I’ve coached him, I’ve played him facing the goal, which is kind of unusual for a 6-8 kid. But he’s proven he can take a larger kid away from the goal and beat them off the bounce. He has a good mid-range jump shot. With more training and weight room work, I think he’ll be a kid that can play facing the goal, or with his back to the goal.
Battle on Siples: First of all he’s really a good kid. His academics are something that really stood out. Jason has a big upside. We’re going to help him do some maturing physically and mentally. We feel like his upside is going to come in the next couple of years. We’re going to put the work in. We see a lot of potential in Jason.
Battle on Siples versatility: He will pose a mismatch for a number of forwards that we play. He can take them outside and he can also take them off the dribble. I believe he can help us block some shots, start the break and get us in transition, because we like to run. For his size, he’s pretty quick.
