AP Explains: Why Mexican Women March Against Gender Violence

FILE - In this March 8, 2019 file photo, women hold hands as they walk with Spanish slogans printed on their backs, reading, from left, "My body, my rules," and "We are going to tear down [the patriarchy]" during a protest march in Mexico City. The United Nations says that four out of 10 Mexican women will experience sexual violence, such as unwanted groping or rape, during their lifetimes, and that nine women are murdered on average every day in the country.
