Enterprise residents should expect the city to be more crowded this weekend as Enterprise Parks and Recreation gets set to host the 2019 Dixie Youth State Tournament
A total of 51 teams are expected to attend, and the Dixie Youth State Tournament will begin with an opening ceremony at Bates Memorial Stadium on Friday, July 5 at 11 a.m.
Games will run through Tuesday, July 9.
The tournament includes multiple divisions.
In Dixie Youth A, Enterprise American will meet Clanton at Enterprise Rec Center field 3 at 2 p.m. on July 5, while Enterprise National will face Millbrook on field 4 at the same time. Enterprise American and Enterprise National will play again at 5 p.m. that day, on field 3 and 4.
On Saturday, July 6, Enterprise American will face Enterprise National at 9 p.m. on field 4.
In Dixie Youth AA, Enterprise Nationals are slated to play Decatur American on July 5 at 3:30 p.m. on field four at the Enterprise Rec Center fields. Enterprise American will begin play on Saturday at 9 a.m. on Rec Center field five.
In Dixie Youth AAA, Enterprise American meets Hartsell at Donaldson Park at 2 p.m. on July 5.
In Ozone Rookie, Enterprise meets Gordo at 2 p.m. on July 5 at 2 p.m. at the softball complex, field three.
The tournament is expected to bring increased traffic and revenue to the city, as the friends and family of traveling players are expected to take up lodging in Enterprise.
According to Parks and Rec Assistant Director Blake Moore, the tournament should be a boost to the economy.
“They’re going to eat here, sleep here, shop here, get gas here,” Moore said. “It should be a big boost, and we’re excited for it.”
