Ferguson likes making connections with young teens

Jerra Ferguson is a ninth grade Biology teacher at Enterprise High School.

She is a 2013 graduate of University of Alabama with a BS in Business and a 2018 graduate of Auburn University at Montgomery with a MA in Secondary Education in Biology.

What is the most challenging thing about your job today? “Competing with cell phones and technology. I try to incorporate tech into the curriculum rather than compete.”

What do you like most about your job? “Making connections with young teens. I hope to have a positive impact on their lives.”

Name three things you would like to see or do in your lifetime: “Live abroad, run a marathon and explore the Amazon rainforest.”

Favorite music: “Beatles, Panic at the Disco.”

Favorite books: “Harry Potter series, Les Miserables and The Great Gatsby.”

Favorite pastime: “Exercise and running.”

Talents: “Cooking.”

Pet peeve: “Lateness, apathy and bottle flipping.”

Values most important to you: “Honesty, sincerity, trust, resourcefulness, punctuality, empathy and self-discipline.”

What’s one thing people would be surprised to know about you? “I taught English in China for six months in 2012. I’ve also visited 13 countries.”
