The Enterprise Lady Wildcats (11-1-1) scored two quick goals early in Tuesday night’s contest against Northview en route to a 3-0 victory at Wildcat Stadium.
Enterprise scored with 37:57 on the clock when Corinna Jones took a pass from Jessi Andress and launched a high chip shot over the Northview goalkeeper, Adriana Wright, who was a member of the North-South squad in 2018.
Jill Harrelson, head coach of the Lady Wildcats, said it was a great shot that set the tone for the game.
“It was one of those shots that no keeper could save,” she said.
Under a minute later, Sydney Garth split two Northview defenders and added another goal for the Lady Cats. Garth’s goal came on a pass from Morgan Harrelson.
Enterprise added the final goal with 35:47 remaining in the second half when Mira Barnes scored on a corner kick after a pass from Summer Burress.
Harrelson said the girls responded to a challenge to play with 100 percent effort, especially against a team with a player of Wright’s caliber.
“(Monday) at practice we showed our team the article and headline from The Dothan Eagle (about) last year’s loss in our stadium,” said Harrelson, referring to a 3-2 loss on April 23, 2018. “We hoped that it would fuel their fire, and it did just that. We challenged the girls to play 80 minutes with 100 percent effort and refuse to lose. They accepted the challenge and went above and beyond our expectations.
“When you can score three goals on their keeper, you have done something. She is the best keeper we will face all season. Our coaches are so proud of this team and their effort tonight. They wanted the headline in the paper to be different this year.”
Maggie Bryan got the win in the goal and had three saves. Cheyenne Piercey played the second half in the goal and recorded three saves.
Defensively, Madeline Webb had five steals, while Ashlyn Purvis and Ashley Morgan both had four.
Next up for Enterprise is another crucial matchup in Wildcat Stadium against Auburn on April 15 at 7 p.m.
