Playing in the March Madness Tournament in Birmingham, the Enterprise High School girl’s golf team fired a two-day total 509 to finish fifth in one of the state’s most prestigious events for high school players.

Providence won the tournament with a 460; Spain Park (481), Hoover (502) and Mountain Brook (508) finished ahead of the Lady Wildcats.

Tuesday’s round was contested on the difficult Robert Trent Jones’ Oxmoor Valley Course.

Emilia “Em” Smith’s 77 led EHS in Monday’s opening round and her 73 Tuesday was not only Enterprise’s lowest score, but her 150 finish was also fourth-best in the event and put her on the All-Tournament Team.

Ashley-Sinclair Curtis carded an 82 Monday and backed it with a 77 Tuesday; she finished tied for seventh-place overall.

Katie Smith followed Monday’s 102 with a 98 Tuesday.

Emily Yerman took a 104 Monday and followed it with 107 in the second round.

Playing as an individual, Miyeko “Koko” Marden shot 115-122.

“We played much better today,” said EHS golf coach Rex Bynum Tuesday night. “The weather helped … sunny and warm!

“Em, Ashley-Sinclair and Katie improved on their scores from Monday and led the team. Emily and Koko didn’t have as good a day, but I am proud for the way they battled!”

Spain Park fired a 234 in the tournament’s first round played at Hoover Country Club Monday, ahead of Providence (241), Hoover (255) and Enterprise (261).
