For the second time this school year, the Barbour County School System welcomes a new Chief School Financial Officer. After interviewing three applicants on Wednesday, Sept. 5, the Barbour County Board of Education voted to hire Marcus Lennon as the new CSFO for the school system.
Lennon replaces Bernard Mitchell who was hired during the summer to fill the position that was vacated when long-time CSFO Michelle Andrews retired at the end of July. Mitchell served approximately one month in the BC CSFO position before resigning to take a job as the Chief Academic Officer with the Montgomery Public School System.
Lennon comes to Barbour County from the Montgomery Public School System where he has worked in the Central Office since August 2107, reviewing and maintaining budgetary information for the 41 schools in the system, reviewing purchase orders, payroll, and amendments for proper coding and available funds in the budget among many other assignments in the financial department.
Lennon has over 10 years of experience as a financial center manager in the banking and credit union industry. Also, he has several years of experience as a manager in retail sales and over 5 years of experience as a manager at Chick-fil-a.
Lennon holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a MBA International in Accounting & Finance from Troy University. He is a certified tax preparer and a holds a certificate as a Certified Credit Union Financial Advisor.
One interesting thing about Lennin , according to his resume, is that he is a Certified Football Official with AHSAA, and has been officiating football for the last six years. He is a member of the Central Alabama Football Officials Association.
Lennon and his family currently reside in Montgomery where they have been members of NCC Safe Harbor since 2006. He is a devoted husband of 8 years and the proud father of 3 children 6, 4, and 18 months. His parents are Pastors of 1st Holy Ground Temple in Ozark, AL and his father-in-law is the Pastor of Antioch Baptist Church in Opelika.

As Lennon gets comfortable in his new job with the county schools, he stated that he plans to thoroughly go over the proposed budget and not make rash decisions, but still keep everything on schedule.
Lennon’s first day on his three year contract will be Sept. 10 at the Central Office in Clayton. His contract will come before the board before the June 20, 2021 end date for renewal. The salary voted and approved by the Board of Education members for Lennon is $85,000 annually, to be paid in 12 monthly installments with the first check being issued on Oct. 1.
