65 Years AgoDec. 5, 1954 — A tornado hits eight miles from Eufaula and blows the roof off a house as well as disrupts a funeral by blowing away a tent covering a grave site, but no one is injured. An 8 ½-year-old girl is killed by the twister in Stewart County, Georgia, and 37 are injured by a separate tornado in Gadsden.

Dec. 7, 1954 — Eufaula High School wins its basketball season-opener over Central High of Phenix City, 52-41. Henry Hart leads the Tigers with 27 points, followed by Tommie Gilmore with 13.

60 Years AgoDec. 1, 1959 — Eufaula High wins its basketball season-opener over Hartford, 59-36, as Tmmie Lewis scores 20, Russell Irby 13 and James Booth 12.

Dec. 2, 1959 — Don Murphy, originally from Eufaula, is named the Alabama High School football Coach of the Year after leading Woodland to a co-championship in the EAC Conference.

55 Years AgoDec. 11, 1964 — Henry B. Gray III is named the Eufaula Citizen of the Year by the Kiwanis Club.

40 Years AgoDec. 8, 1979 — Lakeside handles Crenshaw, 68-53, as Wayne Proffitt scores 30 points and grabs 14 rebounds and Jeff Pitts tallies 18 points and 16 rebounds. The Lady Chiefs also beat Crenshaw, 30-22, and are led by Melanie McPherson with 10 points.

35 Years AgoDec. 4, 1984 — Chris Laster scores 17 points as Eufaula beats Smiths Station, 64-36.

Dec. 6, 1984 — Bobby Dixon is elected as president of the Eufaula Chamber of Commerce, replacing Billy Houston.
