Eufaula High School’s Kaitlin Peterson and Denahria Hicks, both juniors-to-be this fall, made the Elite 100 of girls’ high school basketball players Alabama. They both participated at Spain Park High School in Birmingham on June 22 at a showcase that featured the top basketball girls in the state.
Players participated in basketball drills and competition games throughout the day. Players were divided up on different teams playing with girls from different schools. College coaches and recruiters were there to watch and evaluate players they had interest in. This was the first year the Alabama High School Athletic Association ran the event.
“It was great exposure for our girls and the state of Alabama showcasing some of the best talent throughout the state,” EHS head coach Jermieke Cliatt said. “I was very pleased and proud of both of my girls for competing at a high level. When you are able to perform at a high level against some of the top players in the state, that says a lot of how bright their future is in basketball.
“Kaitlin and Denahria are smart and hard-working young ladies that love the game of basketball. I can see them both playing on the college level one day. They both make good grades and are respectful young ladies that carry their self with class and dignity. I am so proud of them both.”
