On May 25, several dozen children along with an accompanying adult, came out to Blue Springs State Park and made the Barbour County Youth Fishing Rodeo a success. The Eufaula Lions Club and area conservation officers assisted with the event.
Each child registered was rewarded with a new fishing pole. (Next year, there will also be a fishing pole combo given to the first 100 kids at the rodeo. That event is set for May 23, 2020.)
After time was called and all the fish were weighed, there were three winners chosen from each age group:
Ages 0-7 (with weight of fish)
1 -- Liam Tisdale, 19.1
2 -- Layton Crooks, 16.13
3 (tie) -- Jason Miller and Ethan Emsley, 9.12
(A cast off was held to break the tie with Jason Miller casting the farthest.)
1 -- Jace Livingston, 18.4
2 -- Connor Erin, 15.1
3 -- Brandon Henry, 13.10
1 (tie) -- Serenity Riffle and Lamar Morris, 26.4
(Serenity Riffle won the cast off from the tie for first)
3 -- Ethan Napper, 17.8
Tristen Brown -- 1.7
Ashleigh Teal – 3.1
Each winner was awarded with prizes to help keep them fishing. Fishing poles, tackle boxes, and various types of tackle all donated from our wonderful sponsors. Gift certificates to Old Mexico and Happy meals from McDonald's were also awarded to the top anglers. Eddie Byrd with McDonald's (Murphy Family Restaurants) was also on-site rewarding all those in attendance with a card for a free ice cream cone. This year the adults were also able to receive another treat. A raffle was held for a free oil Change from Jim Whaley Tires. Tracey Larkin walked away with this prize.
