An Altha man was killed Thursday in a Calhoun County traffic crash, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The agency reports that James Mayo, 59, was driving a 2002 Honda Civic southbound on State Road 71 near Bob Guilford Road around 12:40 p.m. when he traveled onto the east shoulder, entered a ditch and struck a utility pole.

After impact, the car came to final rest facing south on the east shoulder.

Mayo was taken to Calhoun Liberty Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
