The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victim in last week’s fatal house fire on Tennessee Street in Alford as Laurie Ann Barrett.

On Thursday, May 23, at approximately 10:30 p.m., the JCSO responded to the fire , along with Jackson County Fire and Rescue and the Alford Volunteer Fire Department. Those fire teams worked to contain the fire until the early morning hours of May 24. After the fire had been put out, the Fire Marshal with Division of Investigative and Forensic Services entered the house to determine its cause.

A search of the home and contents revealed one family member had perished as a result of smoke inhalation. The other two residents were not home at the time of the fire, with the victim identified as Laurie Ann Barrett.

According to the State Fire Marshal’s Office Investigator, the fire initiated in the attic of the home and there were no signs of foul play but the fire is under routine investigation by the fire marshal’s office.
