You may have noticed some changes taking place on Penn Avenue. When it came time for change and expansion, Jorge Garcia, owner and manager of Marianna Toyota, decided to stay and make a “huge investment” in the West End.
Jorge is originally from Havana, Cuba. When he was 14, his uncle, Dr. Cabrera, arranged for Jorge to live with him in New Jersey. Jorge’s parents and sister were to follow closely behind him. About two years later Jorge moved to Marianna, when Dr. Cabrera accepted the position of Medical Director for Sunland. Jorge graduated from Marianna High School in 1975 and began working right away. In 1983 he joined the sales team at Marianna Toyota, always striving to do more than what was required of him. This led to a partnership with Mr. Rahal around 1988, and later ownership of the dealership. His strong work ethic has been noted by many, and in August 2016 Jorge’s “Journey to Success” was featured in 850 Magazine.
It wasn’t until 1990 that Jorge’s family arrived in Miami. By this time he was married and had four children. Today, Jorge has five grandchildren and loves the area. “This is home,” he explained, recalling the separation from his family and how he faced daily difficulties with a positive, uncompromising attitude. For several years Jorge has spoken at programs where people take the oath of allegiance to the United States to become citizens. It is important for Jorge to help them understand that “America is the land of opportunity,” he explained.
Jorge believes in the American dream and helping employees, customers, and community members fulfill their dreams. “Fifty percent of my employees have been here for fifteen years, and some longer,” Jorge explained. He is also very involved in the community, often behind the scenes, careful not to draw attention on himself, but to shine the light on others.
If you have never been to Marianna Toyota, their customers will tell you that service is a priority. While the Camry, RAV4 and Highlander are always popular, Jorge’s team will locate whatever car you want. They will even help you design your own car. If that’s not enough to pique your interest, remember Jorge’s famous saying, “If you can’t come to us, just give us a call and we’ll drive it to you.”
