Plans are being finalized for an open house and fly-in at the Marianna Municipal Airport, Saturday, June 8.
Gates will open for the public Saturday morning at 8 a.m. There will be military and civilian aircraft, exhibits, vendors with food, and free aircraft rides for the young.
Pilots attending the fly-in will be treated to a free pancake and sausage breakfast at 8 a.m.
At 11:30 a.m. there will be an FAA-approved safety seminar and lunch for pilots. Those attending will receive WINGS credit.
To sign up for this seminar, pilots should go to: http://www.faasafety.gov/SPANS/event.
Also for those pilots wishing to top off their tanks, SkyWarrior Aviation, the Fixed Base Operator at Marianna Municipal Airport, will be offering a discount of $1 per gallon to those flying general aviation aircraft.
Beginning at 9 a.m., pilots from the Wiregrass EAA Chapter 1358 in Dothan will be offering free Young Eagle airplane rides for youngsters between the ages of 8 and 17. Parents who would like to register their children for a flight should go to: http://www.eaa1358.org/youngeagles.html.
This year’s open house/fly-in is an opportunity for the citizens of Marianna and Jackson County to learn more about general aviation, the military history of this airport, and more about the heritage of the local area.
Pilots will be flying in to the event from all over Florida and adjourning states, so there will be a large variety of aircraft on display. Admission is free to the public.
