After the loss of six members to graduation the Marianna high School Golf Team is looking to rebuild.

Despite this, Coach Tyler Wilson is expecting another big year from the team.

Wilson said that he expects the team to win its seventh district title this season and send players on to the regional tournament.

While the team did lose a big chunk of its lineup to graduation, everyone who didn’t graduate returned to the links for Marianna. The team has also had some freshmen join the squad.

To prepare for the coming season, Wilson said, the team has been braving temperamental summer weather to gets some practice in.

Some members were able to get some course time over the summer, but others have been taking advantage of the practice to shake the rust off, Wilson added.

“ They have been working hard,” he added.

First up for the Bulldogs is a road match at the Sunny Hills Golf Club on Tuesday.

Wilson said that Chipley, Bethlehem and Vernon would be participating in the match, but he wasn’t sure who else would be there for it.

“ We’re going to show up and try and play well.”

It will be Marianna’s turn to host a match on Aug. 23. Wilson said he is expecting six or seven teams to take part in that.
