Chipola sunk the Pirates Wednesday night in the Indians’ last home game of the season.
The Chipola men won a close 87-82 matchup while the Lady Indians had a 73-64 victory.
The win broke a two-game losing streak for the Lady Indians and makes them 6-5 in conference play.
Valerie Nesbitt was the ladies’ high scorer with 19, but Couryajla Sanders and Dekerlya Patterson were close behind with 17 apiece.
Chipola is tied for third with Tallahassee in the Panhandle Conference standings. Gulf Coast is first with Northwest in second.
The Chipola men’s squad fight was a closer contest.
The Indians took a 37-29 lead in the first half and that eight points would be the team’s salvation, because in the second, the Pirates rallied their forces and outscored Chipola 53-50.
Chipola won by 5, 87-82. The men are 7-3 in conference play and are number two in the Panhandle behind 10-1 Northwest.
Kelshawn Brewton was the team’s high scorer with 25. Malik Zachery had 19.
Brewton has also been named the NJCAA Region 8 Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. The sophomore guard averaged 24.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists in two games during the voting period.
Both teams will be heading to Gulf Coast Saturday for their last regular season games. The women will play at 2 p.m. and the men will start at 4 p.m.
