The Lady Indians softball team handed Southern Union State Community College a pair of solid five-inning defeats Wednesday.

Chipola won 8-0 and 12-0.

Game One started with a run-less first inning, but in the second Chipola brought in five.

Ally Clegg was up first and she was hit by a pitch to start things off and Sydeny McClain singled to keep things moving along nicely.

Mikayla Lewin struck out swinging but Amy Woodham got a single that brought in Clegg for the first run.

Taylor Scala got out on a bunt, but Candela Figueroa singed to bring in Woodham. An error by Southern State’s catcher got Haley Sandridge to second and brought Figueroa home. Eila Infante scored Sandridge on a single, but a pop-up by Lauren Finch was out number three.

Chipola added two more in the third when Clegg hit a double and was brought in by a bunt by Lewin. McClain reached first on a dropped popup and proceeded to steal second and then home plate to make it 7-0.

The fourth brought Chipola’s last run of the game. Infante doubled, stole third, and then scored on a Southern State catcher’s error to make it 8-0 Indians.

Amy Woodham was on the mound for Chipola and she gave up one hit and no runs against 16 batters.

In Game Two Payton Clark and Brianna Bailey were pitching for Chipola. They faced 18 batters and gave up four hits and no runs.

Figueroa was at bat first and she hit a double into left center. She was soon moving to third thanks to a Sandridge bunting for a single.

Sandridge stole second to set things up nicely for Infante. She hit a single to right field that brought in Figueroa and Sandridge before going to second on a defensive error.

Southern’s defense tightened up and got Chipola next three batters. Clegg flied out with Yoshie Omori grounding out and Christine Marsland popping one up.

The second would bring six more runs for Chipola.

Tammie Lijbers got a single, but was picked off on a fielder’s choice hit by Scala. Scala stole second and went to third on a sacrifice bunt hit by Jadia Jones.

Chipola had two outs but Figueroa hit a triple to bring in Scala and Sandridge hit a double to bring in Figueroa.

Infante smacked another double to bring in Sandridge and then she stole third.

Southern decided to switch pitchers for some reason, but Clegg hit a single to bring in Infante.

Omori was hit by a pitch and Marsland bunted to load the bases. Lijbers hit a single that scored Clegg and Omori.

Scala got a single, but Chipola’s two out rally was cut short when Jones hit a line drive to the pitcher for out number three.

The third and fourth were all defense, but Chipola got their final licks in during the fifth.

Lewin got things rolling in grand style with a home run.

Figueroa struck out, but Sandridge tripled and then scored on a double hit by Infante.

An error got Clegg to first and Finch was hit by a pitch to reload the bases.

Bailey was walked and Infante was scored. But Lijbers was out on a pop-up.

Woodham got a single to fill the bases once again, but a fielder’s choice wrapped up the inning for the Indians.

The bottom of the fifth was three up and three down for Southern and Chipola took the win.

The Lady Indians will be hosting Gordon State today at 2 and 4:30 p.m.
